This book provides a good overview of chili (pepper) growing. Lots of info on cultivation, canning, etc. The large section on varieties of peppers seemed incomplete, though. Of the 30-ish varieties I've grown in my garden, only half or so were included. Of course, the basic varieties, like jalapenos and so on, are all in there. DeWitt is a recognized leading expert in the field of chili cultivation and that itself justifies picking up this book, but it's more of a "starter guide" than a book for the experienced chili gardener. Nice coffee table book with nice pictures and presentation.

This is a large book that attempts to cover everything,but goes into detail about nothing.I would really like to have seen less recipes and more about preserving and processing peppers then how to cook other foods.Importance seems to be misplaced on the wrong subjects in this book.

Was so excited to get this book! I sat down to peruse and next thing you know a few hours had elapsed. I do own another pepper book, which is mainly a cookbook. But this, is on an entire new level. Currently, my garden has about 10 types of peppers, and I'm looking to expand. This book has helped me identify problems and illnesses that ail pepper plants, as well as provides recipes, techniques for preparing and storing peppers and dried spices. It gives a great description of over 100 peppers. The pictures are close up and beautiful. If I had to say something negative about this book, it would be that only some descriptions give Scoville ratings, others do not. My other book that has a handy graph that I use to look up Scoville ratings, which helps me decide if I want to purchase that type of pepper plant. There are so many types of peppers, and only a fraction of them are listed in either of my books, so if you want a tome that covers varieties exhaustively, this is not the book.

Really good books that covers almost all the basics of chile pepper growing. I have been growing peppers for a couple years before I got this book and still learned a ton. This books covers the different chile families, different methods of growing, different planting arrangements, common issues and how to fix them, and also includes some recipes for all the chiles you will be growing.I have already pulled this book off the shelf multiple times to diagnose issues and to make sure I am doing everything right to maximize my harvests. So far my pepper garden is absolutely exploding with peppers and I think some of that has to do with this book.I would highly recommend this books to anyone growing chiles whether just a couple plants or a whole green house full of them.

The major regret I have is that I didn't buy this book BEFORE buying my chile pepper seeds. It is so jam packed with information about chile peppers that it even helps you decide on a more informed basis which peppers to choose for your garden. I am still happy with the peppers I have chosen to grow, but I will be buying other varieties now because of what I learned so far. For example, I'm thinking of planting a couple of ornamental peppers to beauty up the place and give the birds something to nibble on and leave my other peppers alone.I have done some extensive researching about chile peppers on the internet before buying this book and found some contradictory information here and there which kind of left me confused. Having one reliable source like this book around is really great, as it addresses a myriad of topics relating to chile peppers. However, I did find that the majority of the information I already knew about the subject from searching the net, was exactly the same as in the book, plus there are some websites that the book refers to that offer more advice and tips regarding specific areas.The author seems to have a very close association with The Chile Pepper Institute in New Mexico, which is considered like the MIT of chile pepper research. Having ordered my seeds from that same institute, I noticed that one of the authors was talking about each and every type of chile peppers that they offer (plus a couple that they don't), which is an advantage if you plan on growing your own peppers since you can directly look it up in the book, which gives more details about each type of pepper than the website. However, I do agree with other reviews, that they have not included many other types of chile peppers and that does prove a bit disappointing considering it is "the complete" guide.If you have the slightest interest in chile peppers or are curious about growing them, then this book will take you to the next level. However, for the average gardener, like myself, the book can get a bit too technical, especially in the beginning where it discusses cultivation, but ultimately, it doesn't hurt to go through it and gain some knowledge. The book also contains some recipes and uses for chile peppers, which I have not gotten to yet, in addition to an entire section on diseases that affect chile peppers and how to treat or avoid each type.The one topic that the book address ineffectively was under the preservation of chile peppers where it describes how to make wreaths, but is not illustrated which makes it almost impossible to do it yourself! That was one of the major disappointments for in this book. I also hoped that the book would shed some light on using liquid tomato food at half concentration to feed the chile plants, as suggested by several websites, but unfortunately it does not.So far the book has been a real attention grabber for me and I have been hardly been able to put it down and I really look forward to reading it from cover to cover, probably, over and over again. Overall, it is a valuable reference book that every chilehead must have handy!

Love this book and the recipes! Super informative for a newbie. My husband didn't really like how it was organized. He thought it should be alphabetical by pepper but I get that it was organized differently for a reason.

May be too early to write a review, but I am really enjoying this book. DeWitt knows his stuff, and provides the reader with both depth of science behind different species, as well as practical understanding of different peppers. Looking forward to trying many of the recipes provided in the later portion.

Great book! Much insight on the history and care of peppers; also some decent recipes. It is a dated book now, but still an excellent addition to the bookshelf of those who look forward to any day with peppers on the menu.

Not much detailed information, just touches on every aspect but very little detail. As a brand new grower, I found way more information on random web searches and took very little information away from this book. Also very short book, took maybe 2 days of casual reading to finish all but the cooking section.. Nice to add to the repetoir though I guess.

There are many twists and turns to the plot. The writing is full of beautiful and profound words. Early in the book Nick walks with the Woodsman who tells him about a King. He tells Nick: The King is the fountain of life…The King is a rose full of beauty but also thorns…The King is the true vine, the tree of life, the giver of grain…The King is light…The King is a singer and a song and more. Pg 43This is a very special book full of wisdom and word pictures of our journey in life with the God of the universe.

Wow, I haven't been able to get this book out of my mind. I'm a big fan of Randy Alcorn, and this was very different from his other books. At first I didn't think I'd like Edge of Eternity because I THOUGHT it was sending the message that people would have another chance to be saved after death, but (spoiler alert) I was very happy to see that was not the case by the time I got to the end. After all, one of the themes of the book is that things are not always what they seem. I had trouble putting it down and got a number of spiritual insights from it.

Randy Alcorn's book is AMAZING!!! Such an incredible journey told from the perspectives of both an unbeliever and a Christian. Touches on the act of Jesus for our salvation, spiritual warfare, living for the future, and Heaven vs. Hell. AWESOME!!!! This book moved me so much and was SUCH an encouragement in my spiritual walk. One of my absolute favorite fiction books ever.I had to honestly answer "some sexual content" when making this review cause the main character reviews his life and we get a non-graphic taste of the evils of immorality (nothing graphic, but you know what he's getting at).

This is truly a different story. I really enjoyed the beginning. Somewhere in the middle it just seemed too far out. I stopped and went on to another book. When I came back to the book and completed the story, I found myself rooting for the characters and angry with the evil dudes. It's a fantasy for sure.

Great fiction scattered with biblical truths. Written for those who enjoy Christian fiction with a message and for those who need a reminder of why we are still here. This is a good book to give to a friend. I would highly recommend it for the joy of reading. Some thinking is necessary which is the kind that I like. This is my second Randy Alcorn book to read.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it related to scriptiure. I highlighted so many passages. A great allegory. One to take out and read agian and again.

One of the best books I have ever read. Randy really catches the idea of the fact that we live for but a moment here and must prepare for eternity. The characters are interesting and grab the attention and the emotions. The lessons are clear and convincing. I love to read it and can't put it down. I have read this at least five times and find myself grabbing it again every year or two.

I enjoyed 'Edge of Eternity' even though it doesn't compare to some of the author's other works.This is an allegory of heaven 'Charis' and hell 'Erebus'. It has some very colorful imagery. It also contains numerous thoughtful insights.The greatest value of this book is that it is one that causes Christians to ponder the importance of their actions in this life regarding the impact that they have on the next life.I think it is worthwhile. I also strongly recommend these titles by the same author: 'Dominion', 'Deadline', 'Heaven', and 'Safely Home'. I would consider those four all must reads. This one is very good, but not great like those others.

this has to be one of my favorite books of all time. I got it for Christmas (along with a Michael's gift card) while flipping through it the first time, I realized that this book had fun and clever ideas for Adventure time crafts, all with detailed instructions, templates, illustrations, and even where to get the materials needed. So far I have done (all the crafts I have done out of this book have been a success) The Tree Trunks Shoes, (at Michael's they didn't have canvas shoes so i chose a hat instead*) the finger puppets, the fuse bead coasters, and the Lemongrab UNWELCOME! MatI defiantly suggest this for an Adventure time fan wanting some craft fun! :)*( if you were wondering how I made the shoe idea into a hat, read the following sentences: I took a white hat and painted the actual cap bubblegum pink, and painted the bill lime green, I mixed the lime green with some white and painted over the lime green just enough so the sides were still the darker lime green. Next I painted the Tree Trunks face on the center of the Bill. Finally, I painted an Apple on the top on the cap, and (optional) I painted the strap on the back the lighter lime green. Well, that's at least how I did it. Took me 3 hours tops. :)

The first one I received was beat up! Which has nothing to do with the actual product. Just wanted to say Amazon replaced it unbelievably fast. Oh my glob...you guys, this book is epic! Many nifty little projects from the land of Ooo. It even has a refrence for people who don't know how to knit or crochet. It's a very thorough craft book. This would be a great gift for an Adventure time fan of any age! Some of the projects are quick some are more time consuming. None of them require anything you can't find at your local craft store. I promise you will love this.

Wow!!! If you like Adventure Time and crafts, you'll love this book! The variety of projects is really fun and inspiring. There are projects made by crochet, knitting, polymer clay, shrinky dinks, embroidery, sewing, painting, nail art, pom poms, felt, etc. Definitely an adventure time for multiple medium crafters! You know how some books only have one or two projects worth trying? Not this one! Personally, I don't see a dud in the bunch and can't wait to try them all. I am super happy I bought this book for my library!

I've made a couple crafts out of this book and they've turned out great. I made the BMO case for my Kindle (I made it too small, but that was my own fault) and the perler bead coasters.

Really cute stuff in here! Most of the projects are simple enough for my 9 year old daughter to do on her own. My 6 year old son loves the book too, but needs Mom's help to complete some projects. All in all, a great buy - not your ordinary crafters book, and an awesome addition to any Adventure Time fan's library!

I purchased this along with its companion book, "Paint Lab for Kids." This book is for a little older child than what I need, so it is not very useful to me. Also, I think it includes too many projects for various types of printing. I have passed the book along to a friend who is teaching art to kids so I hope she will find it helpful. I much prefer the "Paint Lab" book but maybe it is just because I am using it with young elementary aged kids.

This book is awesome. I bought it to help me do interesting, creative things over the summer with my daughter (6 years old). It's awesome. The book has helped me put some structure and planning into artwork while offering artists a lot of flexibility during the creation process. I'm well aware that structure and flexibility seem like opposing characteristics, but it really does help you plan out a project, but allows artists to determine what they will create in each lesson.

Looking to homeschool the kids next year I was trying to find something to fill the art gap. I love all aspects of art, but when it comes to getting my kids involved it can be somewhat challenging to say the least. Already owning the Mixed Media lab book and using a few lessons with our summer camp last year, I was excited to find this book at the library so I could check it out first. The Lab Series is great on so many levels. It gives lists of supplies that are recommended, and then reminds you that if you're lacking specific materials, just start with what you have and build your stash slowly. Teaching well rounded art to my kids is important, and alone I was afraid that I would make things too difficult, or (gasp) boring for them. This is a great starting point. So much so that I didn't return it to the library until they told me I couldn't keep renewing it.... so I bought it.As with all Lab books I have encountered, all the exercises are seperate from each other. Yes, they have themed units, (such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Paper, and Mixed Media) but you can skip things you don't have supplies for, or aren't in the mood to do, and still be able to pull off a successful experience. As my children are in the 7-12 age range, this book will work well for us. Each lab is based on a different artist's style, so some art appreciation will be had as you talk about the original master, and may even be interested to do more research on your favorites. Different mediums are used as stated before, so you are able to dabble in different forms and get your feet wet without the need for perfection. One of my favorite labs has to be #13- painting like a fauvist. There is no way to make a perfect picture when you have to do the whole thing in shades of green or blue... helps us not be too intimidated and take art so seriously when our picture looks like the Wicked Witch when it's over.I highly recommend this book, and all books from the Lab Series.

We love this book. It is perfect for homeschool art for any age. We used it for middle school and I could see it easily being used in high school as well. The projects cover drawing, painting, paper, print making and mixed media. We've used charcoal, oil and soft pastels, markers, acrylics, watercolors made screen prints and gelatin prints just to name a few. I highly recommend this book.

There are lots of crafty books out there for kids which are great, but what sets this book apart is that it truly teaches ART to kids! I recommend this book to anyone who teaches art to kids, caregivers looking for ways to include art in their child's life, adults who are budding artists, classroom teachers, daycare providers, and activity coordinators for people of all ages. I purchased two kids' arts and crafts books: Kids Create and Art Lab for Kids. I looked at the Art Lab book first, and then was very disappointed with Kids Create when I looked at that book. Kid's Create is entirely in black and white and totally uninspiring. I was looking for an art book with drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media activities suitable for children that would not only invite creativity but also start to lay a foundation for a basic understanding of art materials and artistic techniques. What's more, I was looking for activities that left room for true creativity in the final product despite using specific techniques. The Art Lab for Kids book was attractive and inspiring. It's activities will be fun for my 6 year old son, but they'll be just as fun for him at 10 and 17 (and for me)and feel fresh even when we repeat each "adventure."The book includes complete materials lists, colorful examples, and "further exploration" activities for each "adventure", so really there are over a hundred possible "creative adventures" in this book.

I have now read all four of the books in the "All My Love Detrick" series. The stories and the characters are compelling. Unfortunately the inconsistencies, repetitiveness, disjointed dialogue and horrible editing make for unnecessary distractions. Is there not an editor on staff? Does the writer not proofread? Were the books translated from a different language? (that would make sense of some of the writing).Then there are the inconsistencies.. the most glaring being the fact that Zofia knew that Karl died in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. But when Zofia and Helga meet, Zofia claims to not know what happened to the man who saved her child. The conversations tend to be disjointed and in some cases run into tangents unnecessary to the progression of the story line and disruptive to the flow of the story itself. Additionally, there is no need to continuously repeat or remind readers of what happened in previous books. If a person is reading book 4, chances are they also read books 1-3. I continue to read the books because I am invested in the characters and enjoy the story. I just wish the writing were better. Ms. Kagan has created interesting characters, but she needs some guidance and editorial support.

I can't get enough of this series...It keeps getting better, anything I write will never be able to explain how much I love this series. Kagan has a,way of telling history through characters you learn to love, you can feel there pain. This book in many ways relates to the World we live in today, it's not just based about the Holocaust but Israel. It's moving and very well written as all Roberta Kagan books are. I cannot wait for the next one to come out, it just keeps getting better. You won't be disappointed so buy all books in this series they are amazing.This one in the series takes place after the Holocaust, tells a story of the war and the fight Jewish people faced still. It's amazing how you will learn facts in a way that you feel like you lived it, her writing is like poetry moving and inspirational

While you tell a great love story, the frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors is most distracting. Enlist the services of a great editor and it will be money well spent.

This is the fourth book in The All My Love, Detrick series by Roberta Kagan. By far, this is one of the best, if not the best series I have read in a really long time. If you have not read this series, treat yourself and enjoy. You won't be sorry. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyed thus book very much! It gives you an insight into what the Israelis went through under Hitler. Also how it affected their whole life and the lives of their children. The Jewish people of Europe love their homeland and will fight and die for their freedom. They recognize their enemy. Beware America it could happen to us! Appreciate our freedoms and guard them. Radical Islam is our Hitler. Listen to the Prime Minister of Israel!!!!!

I love the first of the series, the second was very good and the third was good. This one was good but kind of disappointing, I feel almost like she might just be kind of coasting with the story now , I do still plan on bringing the new one that's coming out next month but I was a bit disappointed with this one. To be An Israeli just kind of came off of that preaching here and there. I somehow felt that at times it was almost like it was making people feel like anybody who's not an Israeli cannot understand the life there, I tend to disagree with that. It was a good book it was nice to continue the line point of the characters from the first book all my love Detrick however I don't always like the way she went with certain characters, although it's the right is prerogative to make the characters the way they want. I thought this was going to be the last book but seeing that a new one is coming out which continues the story yet more I am going to have to read it to see how it goes off. As I've said I enjoy the series I just don't feel that there is good as the first book, yet I'm not ready to put them down and not continue them.

I only read the 4th and 5th books in this series and absolutely loved them, despite the rather simplistic writing style. The characters were interesting and the plot lines creatively interwoven with historical events. I may go back and read volumes 1-3 some day, but haven't bought them yet. One thing I really liked that I haven't seen in other series is the overlap in the storyline between the two volumes, and how the author fills in what was going on with different characters during that time. Even though there was some redundancy, I thought it helped complete the story.

I have become a fan of Roberta Kagan. She writes from the heart the plight of the Jewish people. Her writing has a way of taking me immediately into the story and I seem to become a part of it.The sacrifices that were made for the Jewish state are incredible. Kagan has a way of making each of her characters come alive and relevant. I love her dedication in telling the story of Israel. This is an excellent read.
