I was given the original set as a gift several years ago. I ended up leaving one of the cards in a bistro where we had lunch :( That being said, I love this box of cards! We went on several of the walks. Sometimes, we used them as starting off points, sometimes we actually finished a walk or two. They are certainly not the only thing I take to Paris, but I like them so much, I just purchased 3 boxes to loan to friends when I lead a trip in October, 2018.My only quibble is two misspellings. Ladurée doesn't have a capital D, and the marvelous little goodies sold there are macarons, not macaroons. They are totally different things, each one delicious. And you know, if that's the biggest complaint I have, that's ok!

Took these along on a recent weekend visit to Paris. Stayed in Montparnasse neighborhood for the first time this trip (have been to Paris six times before) and found the cards very fun and helpful for exploring new neighborhoods. Pretty easy to string a few cards together for a day's adventure. Also have the New York City set of these walking tour cards,

Love, love, love this desk. My boyfriend and I spent five glorious day in Paris. We rented a little apartment in the 9th and the home owner had this deck in the apartment for the guests to enjoy. Each day when we left the apartment we would grab a few city walks to do. The walks are great because they were short but informative. I like knowing the little secret facts about the city and this deck provides that. These were especially helpful when walking through a part of the city we hadn't seen before. It was a nice introduction to the area. It's like having your own personal tour guide in your back pocket. When we returned home I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend as a fun memory of our time in Paris and as a promise to return so we can do the walks we didn't have time to get to.

I have one of the City Walks for London and New York they are GREAT, the Paris one is exactly the same. You can't go wrong, instead of having to take the entire book with you when you are walking around, you only have to take the card or cards your using that day. I'm directionaly challenged and it worked for me.

If you go to Paris with a loved one, friends, co-workers, family, or alone, the notion of just being in Paris is heady enough, isn't it? Getting lost in Paris isn't the worse thing that can happen to a person. Maybe never going to Paris is a whole lot worse. These cards are packable, portable a few at a time for daily sojourns, and help enough that any tourist using them will not be overwhelmed by the city. No, they are not perfect either in design or updates, but that's okay since Paris is. Get them, use them, enjoy having them when traveling, then leave them at a gateway airport for the next tourist to benefit. Bon voyage.

You can find lots of guide books that cover the popular attractions of Paris. What I enjoy about this set is that it gives provides an enjoyable set of strolls both in the heart of Paris as well as a bit off the beaten path. The cards come with a map (although I find bringing a larger map along is helpful for orientation).

We used several of these while in Paris. BoyScout hubby loved being able to just peek at the map while my paranoid self loved having specific directions saying the names of streets and descriptions of the points of interest. Compact cards fit easily in my hubby’s back pocket.

Great help when you travel, it makes the most of you visit. The idea of moving around with updated information of the city and easy to carry ( just cards) is superb. Mainly because Paris is always a beautiful destination and you never seems to know each corner this cards with enough information of different routes are a wonderful opportunity to move alone ( not in a tour). This year they where our gift to my mother and she enjoys them while walking when we invited her with us to Paris, selecting a couple of cards depending where she wants to go.

A must read debut! Elizabeth May's The Falconer has it all. A fierce heroine, an exciting storyline, unforgettable characters, romance, a rich history, and an enchanting faery lore. Unlike any other fae book I've before, this book is just awesome! I LOVED it!Lady Aileana has become one of my favorite heroine's from this year. She is fierce, loyal, and will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves, as well as avenge the murder of her mother. In the process, this brave fighter risks her life, her status in high society and so much more. Aileana would much rather be out hunting faeries than be stuck in a stuffy ball room, or attend picnics in the park. She has an incredible gift, she's a Falconer. The last in line of incredible women who were also faery assassins. One of the things I loved about Aileana is how strong she is. Despite the fact that she's a women in a society where choices were made for them, her gift/power allows her a secret freedom to do otherwise. The characters in this book are fabulous! Lady Aileana has three men who all play important, and very different roles in her life. Her ever present side kick, Derrick, a pixie and lives in her dress room, is often times her voice of reason, but more importantly he's helped her see that not all fae are bad. Then there's Gavin, the brother of her best friend, and the boy she's grown up with. No, there's no love triangle in this story, but I loved how these two came back into each other's lives, and the love they have for each other. Both have secrets, with Gavin being a Seer, someone who can see the far, and Aileana's abilities, these two learn to rely on each other in a much different way. Then there's Kiaran.Oh Kiaran! I loved his character. There's so much to him. He's the complex character we learn enough about in this story, and yet there's so much more I'm dying to find out. There's this element of danger, and excitement about Kiaran. Being a fae, who not only trains Aileana, he also hunts fae with her. The chemistry these two have is awesome! It's intoxicating as it leaves me feeling satisfied and leaves me wanting more of them. I love finding out about the history he and Kam (Lady Aileana) have. It was evident from the moment he's introduced into the story, that these two have something unique. There's also a mutual respect, and a bit of danger mixed into it. Oh my romantic heart. I loved the romance! It's one that makes you yearn to have the characters together, and when they are, I wanted more. It's a slow burning romance that has snark, sizzling chemistry, history, and danger. It's the kind of romance that fans of Cassandra Clare and Jennifer L. Armentout will love! You know you've read the perfect book for you when you get to the end and find yourself craving more. The Falconer has a beautiful mix of paranormal, steampunk, and historical elements. Elizabeth May does such an awesome job at mixing all these elements together. I loved how they were all infused to tell Aileana's story. The setting was fabulous! Steampunk historical Scotland! I absolutely loved it! The rich history this beautiful country has was the perfect back drop for the story and the romance. I can not wait for book two. I NEED MORE!Be sure to check out my interview with Elizabeth May here.

I see that there are a lot of conflicting reviews on this book, but I do think that they are mostly related to the ending. So first things first, if you haven't read this and hate cliffhanger endings, prepare to buy the next book(s) because this is one of the cliffiest hanging books ever! In spite of that, and in spite of the fact that I totally hate cliffhanger endings, I absolutely loved this book. It engaged me right from the peek inside, through the beginning and all the way to the end... which of course will take me into the next books. I thought that the characters were very realistic and well developed. Yes, the heroine is not the typical one. She is angrier than some, deadlier than most. She not only has to kill (done a lot) she enjoys it (much less done). She revels in it. Thrives in it. This lust to kill is a new aspect for a heroine - at least for me. Ms. May does this so well that you have both sympathy and respect for the heroine at the same time. It's masterfully done, and wonderfully written. As even those who hated the ending have noted, the romantic tension is super-potent! I'm not a fan of mushy romance. I like romance that is more subtle, or more involved... basically more realistic. Not easy. And this romance is anything but easy. It's virtually impossible. And conflict? Really? I don't think I've read a book with MORE conflict. This one has the fast pace, the amazing fight scenes, the thrilling nail-biting moments, and add a healthy dose of invention, engineering and science. Not only does the book have steampunk qualities, it delves into why. Into how the creating of a steam engine relates to the ability to fight the evil fae creatures. Pure genius. And I'm not generally even a steampunk fan. I may be now. This alternate-history, fantasy-reality blend is enchanting. It looks at the world and roles of women in historic Scotland and England, and turns it on its ear. This is like a new age suffragette coming-of-age blended with the best that fantasy has to offer. Now a note to Mom's, this does have its share of violence and gore, although it's not so gruesome that I would call it gratuitous violence. I truly dislike books that are violent purely for the sake of violence, but this is not that. I would say it's more PG-13. The idea that a girl had something violent happen so young is a difficult topic, but May uses this to show how difficult grief and relationships can be.I truly can't say enough good things about it. I'm eager to read everything else May has written.

It was a bit of a chore to get through the first few chapters simply because Kam (calling her Kam because I'm reviewing on mobile and can't remember how to spell her first name) kept moaning on and on about her dead mother and just how darn murderous and eeeevil she is now that she kills faeries. But things eventually pick up and I rather like the concept of a Victorian Buffy. The world was fun if a bit undeveloped. The steampunk elements seemed like an afterthought, just thrown in to make everything Kam does seem cooler. The story itself was pretty good. But once again a lot of things seemed to happen just for dramatic effect. For instance (minor spoiler) I can't see the point of Kiaran refusing to tell her about the seal opening on the lunar eclipse until there's less than a week left until said disastrous eclipse, even though she's apparently the only person who can prevent it. So that little mystery plot bunny just did not make sense at all. Also my suspension of disbelief couldn't really handle the final battle. (Again minor spoiler) So there's hundreds of evil faeries who just escaped the seal and there's only Kiaran and Kam there to fight them. How exactly does that battle go? Do the other faeries politely wait their turn to fight? Do they just run away? What stops them from piling on Kam to prevent her from getting to the seal at all?So overall this is a fun light read, but it just made me roll my eyes one too many times.
