This book focuses on a lot of the sensational aspects of Mexica culture. It is a good introduction and does list a lot of the standardly known facts--indications of cannibalism, the scope of the empire, the complexity of the architecture and agricultural practices. Still it lingers of the human sacrifice a bit much and repeats things that recent scholarship has made controversial. For example the claim that Aztecs claimed the king Montezuma II thought that Cortes was the plumed serpent God. Recent scholarship indicates that could have been a creole legend and not of native Mexica origin. Still it is a decent introduction.

I recommend you purchase any other book if you want to learn about the Aztec culture. The writing shows the author has no real concept of the culture's achievements and actually surpasses ignorance to venture into insult.

Very disappointed...was expecting a book for my granddaughter, instead it's like a pamphlet....don't waste your time or money on this pamphlet.

I like that the author pointed out not only the most popular Aztec beliefs but also other accounts that were not as well know.

I have used the Davis system with three kids. It has worked every time! I am sure I made mistakes but I just kept going back to the books--this one and the Gift of Dyslexia.

Really opened my eyes to the feelings that dyslexic children suffer. I did not understand until I read this book. This book should be read by every parent of a dyslexic child and by every teacher in public school. We are so blessed in my small town to have a small, affordable, private school taught by a woman that has understands. My grandson had a miserable time in public school until enrolled in his present school.

My wife is dyslexic, dyspraxic and ADD, but this did not stop her getting two degrees and leading a successful career. In her late thirties, while training to become a psychotherapist, she came across The Gift of Dyslexia, Revised and Expanded: Why Some of the Smartest People Can't Read...and How They Can Learn and went through a Davis programme. It transformed her life to the extent that I have now trained to deliver the Davis dyslexia and ADD programmes. I believe this was one of the best decisions in my life. I now enjoy working with highly intelligent people unleashing their full potential, and I can not imagine anything more fulfilling as a line of work. Ron's second book, the Gift of Learning is crammed full of practical how-to instructions which truly work. In fact that is the only down-side of this book, compared to his first book The Gift of Dyslexia, Revised and Expanded: Why Some of the Smartest People Can't Read...and How They Can Learn, this new one is a bit too much like a manual. It does not have the same amount of inspirational stories as his first book. Nevertheless, the procedures in this book WORK. If you have a child struggling with maths, ADD, AD/HD, or handwriting issues, this book is one of the very few out there which will actually show WHAT YOU CAN DO about it.

very informative, has more tips and exercises than the first book. Seems to be working so far. When everyone is wondering what to do. This a a hands on fix it tool you need when your kids struggles and you feel your unable to help them or get help for them. Contacted the center and they were very helpful. They travel to you! This techniques are for all students in a class not just for a single child. That is what I like about this book that it can be used in an entire classroom so they all benefit immediatly and your child gets it. Very time consuming but you want your child to succeed so its well worth it. This book is a must its the second part to complete the process. I had the principle of my child's school buy one for all the teachers and another parent who was struggling with the same issues.

I bought this book with high hopes. It was interesting and a different approach. My son is very dyslexic. However when I tried to implement the visualization techniques that are supposedly crucial to the program, he melted down, refused to do them and said they were "boring"... Not sure if the symbol mastery part will work without the alignment procedures... I am not giving up but it's kind of hard to implement. Wish we lived near a Davis facility...

This book follows the author's first book, The Gift of Dyslexia. It is more comprehensive, because it follows the author's continued research into the area. It's THE best book on the subject. You will not only understand the gift, but you will also learn how the dyslexic person can work around certain side effects of the gift (difficulty reading).

Anyone dealing with problem students will find this book to be a five-star wonder. Even if you're not the teacher, the understanding you get by reading this book will help you deal with the problem learner in a whole new (and better) way because you better understand the nature of the problem. Ron Davis not only understands the visual/experiential learner, but he can explain WHY there is a problem---like the difference between a number and numeral, and how a particular thought process can have great difficulty with the symbols of the numerals and letters. His explanation of why some students can't seem to read handwriting---even when it's their own---and how to "erase" the problem letters and then ingrain a new handwriting that will be legible is so easy to understand and simple to address, it is a wonder the process hasn't been invented before. While this book might not have wide appeal (how many are dealing with problem students?) it is a MUST READ for those who are in need of correcting addition, math, and handwriting problems.

I received this book for free. I invest a bit here and there and Bitcoin has been in the news a lot. I honestly didn’t know much about it. Some say to stay clear and others are getting 2nd mortgages to buy it. This book covers a lot of the questions you may have. Helps you understand the process and what it’s all about. Has a litte speculation in it and gives you a solid feel. If you are like me and curious about it give this book a shot.

I received a review copy of this book. It has good information, I just wish there was a bit more on mining. Interested in solar mining, but from what I gather the upfront cost is far to much. Still learned some more in my research and I appreciate it.

I received a copy of this book for free. It it a good intro guide to bitcoin and crypto, starting from the very basic and building onto more specifics about mining and investing. From the intro chapters, some of the descriptions are pretty brief and the examples a bit basic, but the book provides some useful information and step-by-step instructions on how to create a wallet and walks you through the main concept of bitcoin trading. Overall a useful read.

I purchased this to enjoy reflective reading and applying to my life while hoping for some inspiration. I admit that much of the poems considered "great poetry" leaves me scratching my head, and feeling disappointed in not having the type of intellect to grasp the whole or primary message the poet is trying to convey.I purchased this book to repeat the reading of some of the great poems we studied in Literature class in High School. So far I am very pleased with having especially the "giants" to read and I'll, admit, if you won't tell anyone.....primise? ....that I hope with my old age now, I'll finish reading some of these and respond with an enthusiastic, "Ahh! I get it now!"

We ordered this book for my elderly mother in law who was confined to bed the last 8 months of her life. She wanted to keep her mind sharp and her childhood memories included memorizing poetry offered a diversion from just watching TV. I recommend this book to teach kids some of he classics they are not learning any more

I'm proud to be an American because our poets like Walt Whitman. Edgar Allen poe and Emily Dickinson are one of my favorite poets poetry is great

I like the great diversity of poems in this edition and that is part of why I gave it such high marks. I enjoyed a great number of these poems. As one who received a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing, I can say i have studied and enjoyed many of these poems while also not enjoying a few that have bothered me over the years, LoL.I was happily surprised to find that Abe Lincoln was even in here. I like the poem that was chosen by the editors that he wrote.A few of the poems i sifted through were a few of my least favorite. While I enjoy T. S. Eliot, I do not like The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock! Perhaps it is because I had to spend so much time studying that poem, but it just is not one of my favorites. I also am not a fan of the poem The Red Wheelbarrow! However, as a poet myself, I do respect the man as an author no matter how much i dislike that poem.Some of my favorites like Ars Poetica, Fire And Ice, and The Raven far exceed any poems I do not have a passion for. I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves poetry!

This is a great little book. I was interested in American Poetry and this selection of authors was very good. We have so many talented people in the good ole USA and this makes me proud. I remembered so many of the poems in the book and had not thought about them for years. I heard a quote from an old poem and looked it up online and then searched Amazon and this little book was the dose of poetry I needed. Thanks...

I guess I expected too much. I enjoyed reading some of them, however, isn’t poetry an objective subject!Have several hand held books at home, so I can’t honestly compare.

I've used this anthology in several of my classes. While it doesn't have every poem I'd like to cover (what anthology does, though?) it is an excellent place to start, and a fine way to introduce many of the great American poets to students. Since it's so cost effective, too, I recommend that students purchase their own copy so they can write in it as they dissect some of the poems. All in all, a great little book. Plus it's light, making it easy to carry in a backpack or purse.

Table 2.1 shows the features of six different Bayesian network packages; this table alone makes the book valuable since it helps the researcher select the right tool for the job. More such tables comparing packages are desperately needed in the R community.I typed out every line of R code in the book. All of the code ran, except for the Rmpi package which would not load on my machines (this is not the authors' fault). The R language is always developing, so some of my output had more information than what the book shows. Functions that use Monte Carlo Markov chains gave slightly different values than the text (This is not a flaw; just know that you did not make a mistake when your numbers are close but not equal to the book).Two example data sets from Karen Sachs' research are on the book's website. When I loaded them, an X prefix was added to the column names. To get the examples to run, I added an X to each node's name. Everything ran smoothly after adding that.The examples are grouped by task, I feel that the book could be improved by grouping the examples by package instead. This would improve the book for referencing after a researcher selects a package for their task.
