This is a VERY well-written, informative book.

This is an exceptionally well-crafted book which I believe delivers on its intention of being timeless. I personally consider this book an updated and evolved version of Radia Perlman’s classic “Interconnections”. Like Radia’s book, “Computer Networking Problems and Solutions” covers a large range of important fundamental topics and demonstrates the vast web of interdependencies among all of the different technologies covered. This book should be considered required reading for both students of network engineering and computer science alike. Even if you are a seasoned veteran with computer networking, I guarantee you will still find an enormous amount of very useful information and be able to use this book as a point of reference for many years.

Love everything about this book so far, more to come, it will take a while to get through it and digest.

This is a coloring book that purports to give the colorist the ability to have a “stained glass” look to their coloring if they use wax crayons. I tried wax crayons as well as wax-based colored pencils, oil-based colored pencils, alcohol-based markers and water-based markers. While I did like the effect that I got with the wax crayons as well as I did the different effect that I got from alcohol-based markers, I can't say that it looked like a stained glass window.Using wax crayons gave the finished design a glossy look as well as a translucence. Using alcohol-based markers were translucent but not glossy. The other mediums worked okay as well but while some colors were translucent, others did not. Perhaps that was due to a color having a deeper pigment than others.Other than not agreeing with the whole stained glass concept of the book, I liked the designs. They appear to be more of a gray scale design than one with special effects. I did note that all of the designs presented a moiré pattern when I recorded the video and, to a lesser extent, when I took sample photos. Because of that, I assume that there is some sort of special print method being used to enhance the stained glass effect once the designs are colored.I found that I liked coloring the designs in the book even though I didn't feel that the end result looked like an illuminated window. The designs were easy to color if with mostly open areas to fill in. Because of the heavy dark grays, I'm not sure that someone with vision issues would find it as easy as I did.This is what I found out about the book while coloring in it and testing various coloring medium:31 Mandala style stained glass window type designsPrinted in heavy gray/black tones on one side of the pagePaper is medium weight, white, lightly rough and perforated as usual for Creative Haven coloring booksGlue bound but pages can be removed easily at perforationsDesigns stop before the perforationsAlcohol and water based markers bleed through to some degreeGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the pageColoring pencils work well with this standard Creative Haven paper. Both wax and oil based pencils lay down good color, layer and blend well. Hard lead pencils leave dents on the back of the page.

Prints are much darker than I had hoped.There are only tiny spots of white spaces on the printed windows so there is no way to get a bright look without adding white in after the pieces are colored.I bought this book intending to use it for both coloring and giving me ideas for polymer clay canes. It did offer some great patterns for canes but as far as stained glass window coloring, I'll stick to Dover's. Their pages are printed on a translucent paper that truly allows the sun to shine through.Since the main use of this is for coloring pages that will resemble Rose Windows, I'm removing a few stars. That the paper has a nice hand and is printed one side only does maker the book usable, but only if the colorist is aware that the pages start out too dark to ever be able to recreate the look of Rose Windows.

This book and designs are slightly different from other I have purchased. The black lines of the designs vary in thickness. ( they are not a consistent thin outline Like the majority of books ot there ). The pages are also “framed” around the edges. This makes the finished park look a little more sophisticated and less like a coloring page. In some cases making the areas to be colored a bit smaller. This means you might want to do a little more design planning before you begin working on it. Very nice book

This coloring book is a one of a kind find. I absolutely love it, and although it recommends crayons, I used my ultra fine Sharpie markers and it achieved same effect. I ended up ordering another one of the same kind. Highly recommend this! Wish someone would come out with something like this in another book, maybe a mandala or other subject matter.

Surprised by how much I REALLY like this book!. Usually, I'm not much into the pre-shaded designs, but to me, this is a terrific exception. By using a light hand with colored pencils, slowly building up to a medium depth of color, and the result is fantastic. The pre-shading adds such dimension and depth to your work. Ya' gotta' try this one!

My daughter likes it and that's all that matters. She actually uses crayons (yes, Crayola), and once she has finished a section, she grabs a paper towel, scrubs the done portions until it becomes shiny and the dust, etc is gone from the design. It actually looks pretty.

I absolutely love this coloring book! I thought I was ordering another stained glass coloring book, the kind you use with markers and can hold up to light. This is my favorite one yet, uses crayons, which are easier on my hands. Where can I get more like it? Once colored, the page comes alive, like a 3D effect!

I thought the pages would be clear so I could hang them in the window like other “stained glass” coloring books available.. but they’re just simple designs with a lot of gray “shading” Printed on plain white paper..

Great book, as is the entire series it comes from. If you are a chronic pain patient, or know someone who is, this is a book to have and to keep. Having led a chronic pain support group for many years, the questions at the end of the chapters are really good and very helpful for group discussions or individually. I especially appreciate the inclusion of God and scripture when it comes to suffering with chronic illness and pain. It is also a nice size that you can slip into a bag, purse, or carry with you to have while waiting for appointments, etc. Check out the other books and workbooks by Kimberly Rae in the "Sick and Tired" series, you'll be glad you did!

Kimberly Rae begins her book like this: "Sometimes I want to slap a sticky note on my forehead that says, 'I am sick. No, I don't look sick at this moment. But, I am not faking having a disease just because I'm not in a wheelchair, and I am not a freak.'"Of course, she explains she wouldn't actually do that—since doing so would make her a freak for sure—and she explains life with chronic illness from the viewpoint of someone who has lived for many years with illnesses you don't necessarily see.This is a book for two kinds of people: the chronically ill, and everyone else.If you know what it's like to be sick with the kinds of illnesses people can't see (a whole list here, including fibromyalgia, cancer, and hundreds more), you'll find a friend in Kimberly Rae. She will help you laugh and cry and understand those around you—why they react to your illness in the most ignorant ways, and how you can actually help them.If you are in the second category, you can't possibly understand those who are chronically ill, but this book will help you empathize with and help them. Sick and Tired helps you to know what to do—and not do—for your friends. It will help you know what to say and not say. It assists you in knowing how to show you care in a loving, Christian way.One of the major things I love about all of Kimberly Rae's books is her non-condemning spirit. Here again, her purpose is to instruct and enlighten and even to entertain, but she does them all without making anyone feel "less than." This very helpful book is written by someone who truly understands chronic pain and chronic illness.What I found amazing is that this reading this book is like taking a class about how to handle chronic sickness / pain. At the end of each chapter there is a checklist of things to do that really help manage pain.Personally I am over the moon wtth this book because I live with chronic pain....years ago Ibwas in a very bad auto accident and my riright shoulder was severely damaged. This book has helped me and given me encouragement.Highly recommend this book!

I liked how she kept God in the story, but in a "light" way. There are times when we, with chronic illness, have trying times and I picked this up this book for my Amazon Fire on one of those days. It was a help to realize that I am not the only one going through issues and I enjoyed her style.

When I first looked at this book, I thought, okay, it's not too long, sounds intriguing, I think I'll take a stab at it. The cartoons were spot on and I think her straightforward style was exactly the balance needed to bring home her points.Then, as I read further, I surprised my self by tearing up. Kimberly now felt just like a sister; someone you could sit and have a coffee with, getting sympathy and a gentle kick to avert the pity me syndrome.Thank you Kimberly Rae, I will be looking for more books from you! Do me a favor though; make 'em longer!

Almost 2 years ago I was diagnosed with FMD (functional movement disorder) I left my work in April 2013 took sometime for peace went back to work 8 months later Im a mess now not that I wasn't during the 8 months it just reared its ugly head the harder I work. I work with children with disabilities its amazing when your in the middle of helping a child and your dumb founded you can't answer a second grade question or remember what a verb is it boils down to I'm at the stage of just try to figure out how I feel about this and what to do next but i can relate to you in some ways noise,crowds, tremors, movements I can't control, I've become a hermit but I'm trying to get out more garden trying to find where I belong and yes why people don't understand stinks. This book was truly inspiring thank you for sharing and giving some really good things to think about!

As someone who deals with chronic pain, I found this book to be easy to read, comical, and completely encouraging. If you deal with pain, day after day, you will find this book very refreshing. I appreciated the questions at the end of each chapter - they really made you think and assess where you are right now in dealing with chronic pain (emotionally and physically), and nudged you to go to the next level in accepting your situation with a better attitude. I highlighted parts of the book (on my Kindle) that stuck out to me, to refer to on a later date when I need some encouraging words. I highly recommend this book! Great read! My curiosity piqued, I bought this on the merits of its great title alone. And subsequently was most glad that I did, as I found this book very very interesting. It was published approximately 11 years after the end of WWII, and bears a certain attitude unique to it being so relatively recent. The author was t-h-e-r-e and expertly describes his personal view of a window into time.While there are certain passages which are definitely aimed at a reader with next to zero knowledge of submarines, they are regularly overshadowed by many fascinating pieces on topics/tactics which I had never come across before. Again, the writer’s proximity to events – both personally and temporal – gives this book a unique viewpoint. I found Mr. Gallery’s thoughts regarding aspects of the ‘bad torpedo’ problem and of the Nuremberg Trials particularly absorbing.There is a lot of action in this work, I assure you it’s far from a dry recitation on how the two Battles of the Atlantic were fought.I heartily recommend this book.

This is a really excellent book about the U-boat and anti-U-boat war in the Atlantic in WWII. Although it's focus is on how the U-505 was captured by the antisubmarine Task Group under Adm. Gallery's command and his own direct decisions which culminated in the capture, the book encompasses a lot more. It discussed the broad context and history of the submarine war in the Atlantic from both the U.S. and german points of view; discusses submarine design, weapons and tactics; antisubmarine weapons and tactics; the history, personnel and war cruises of the U-505 leading up to its capture;and the history and actions of the Task Group. Throughout the book, the people are well discussed. Ultimately, the activities of the capture are described in great detail from the U.S. Navy's and the U-boat's perspectives. The writing is clear. Overall, the book is very well researched, organized, written and exciting to read.

Rear Admiral Gallery (one of the three brothers who were discharged from the US Navy at this rank!) wrote the story of the boarding of the Nazi sub U505 during WWII. At the time of the events described by the author he was commanding a task force of an air carrier and destroyers charged with hunting German subs. It was his idea to form and train a boarding party that would be able to capture an intact Nazi sub. The main theme of the book is the history of U505, from the laying of its keel, through its lone wolf career. and up to its capture by Gallery's men, and finally its final task, serving as an exhibit in Chicago science museum. Parenthetically we get a fair description of the German submarine effort to destroy allied shipping on the Atlantic, on service and morals, on politics, war, and God. Despite being an author of ten books (five of them fiction), Gallery is no Shakespeare. His prose is full of cliches, mixed metaphors (e.g. "...the Old Man Death knocking like a lusty young giant..."), and countless repetitions. The style is in the best (or worst) of The Brady Bunch tradition and reflects the authors rather simplistic philosophy of life. Nevertheless, despite its shortcomings, it is a vivid though a mite tedious yarn of the life and (mostly) death struggle during the Battle of the Atlantic

An excellent tale recounting the actual events that led to the capture of U-505 and its final resting place in Chicago. Definitely on my to-do list. This is nothing like the move, U-571 with Matthew McConaughey, this is good. The pace is well done and the recounting of actions in the North Atlantic are superb. I would also point out, the author, Daniel V. Gallery is a man of strong, conviction and faith. He addresses the moral points of wart I’ve never read in such detail. He goes into detail when Rader and Doenitz are tried for war crimes at Nuremburg. He had no problem with the Nazis being tried, but those in the Kriegsmarine is another story. They were tried for the same actions Gallery, Nimitz and King performed-unrestricted submarine warfare. He found it a bit hypocritical to say the least. I enjoyed his analysis of the current geopolitical situation and how we viewed our enemy at the time-The USSR. Remember, this book was published in 1956. I’ve read other works that held the same sentiments and fears regarding the experimentation with nuclear subs. They would be much deadlier than the S and U-boats of World War Two. They knew they would be lethal but they could not imagine the capabilities these new weapons would carry. I didn’t mean to get off point, but that’s how moving I found the story. Gallery holds nothing back describing how Germany almost completed strangling England to death and cutting off the shipping lanes to Russia. In 1942, the situation looked bleak indeed. But as in all wars, we started to win the technological war while the Germans fell behind. And it happened literally in the nick of time! Another six months and the U-Boats would have dominated the seas, but new radar and sonar devices allowed us to hunt down the killers of the depths. Who will like this? Any World War Two buff wanting to know more about the Battle of the Atlantic.Five Stars

This story is one of the best world wwII books I have read. Having seen and been through the U505 in Chicago years ago I wished this book had reached me before I did so. It beats any military saga I've read thus far.

Amazon seems to be including all the reviews of different editions and translations of Chaucer's "Troilus and Criseyde" on the same page. If you read the reviews here you will be very confused. Some refer to an original language edition (either the one made by R. A. Shoaf or Stephen Barney's Norton Critical edition), and some refer to a translation, at least one to the translation done by Nevill Coghill. The reader needs to pay careful attention to what edition is actually on the screen when making a selection.If you want to read the original text, I would recommend Stephen Barney's edition. Barney is the editor who made the critical edition for the Riverside Chaucer, and his Norton Critical edition includes ten excellent critical essays in addition to Chaucer's poem, Giovanni Boccaccio's "Il Filostrato" (Chaucer's source), and Robert Henryson's "Testament of Crisseid." Shoaf's edition is also good, but twice as expensive, and it does not have as much contextual material. Coghill is a fine translator of Chaucer, and for the reader who does not want to tackle the Middle English he will provide an adequate experience. But beware: His smooth couplets sound more like Alexander Pope than the vigorous medieval writer he is translating.

I bought it for a class. It arrived quickly and was one of the cheapest versions I could find. As for the story itself, it’s not my favorite Shakespeare play.

This is an excellent edition with a thorough introduction, as well as bibliographic apparatus and notes that are easily accessible in the e-book format.

The price is high, but so is the quality

The biggest reason to choose The Penguin Shakespeare edition of “Troilus and Cressida” is for the editor’s devastating and insightful commentary on the play. The editor is Jonathan Crewe, of Dartmouth College. The way Professor Crewe sees it, Shakespeare was unimpressed with the great events and personalities of Homer’s “Iliad,” on which “Troilus and Cressida” is based. To the Bard, the story of the Trojan War was more dubious than inspiring. Crewe writes: “‘Troilus and Cressida' questions the heroic legend of the Trojan War and strips its leading characters of their legendary charisma, revealing an often shameful although humanly recognizable underlying reality.” Shakespeare even questions whether or not the opposed parties of the war really do represent opposing civilizations on whose respective victory or defeat the future of the world depends. Tellingly, the English poet puts these words into the mouth of his character Thersites: “All the argument is a whore and a cuckold.” For Thersites (and by extension Shakespeare), the great events of the Trojan War boil down to little more than farce. In the First Folio, “Troilus” was labeled a tragedy. Performing arts critic Cynthia Greenwood perhaps put it best having referred to the play as a mixture of dark comedy and bitter tragedy. Also, as we shall see, the play is as relevant as today’s headlines.Synopsis—After seven years, the Trojan War is at a stalemate. Inside the walled city of Troy, young Troilus loves Cressida, but she has defected to the Greeks. Troilus persuades her uncle Pandarus to intercede on his behalf. Meanwhile, Hector of Troy issues a challenge to the Greeks, daring any one of their champions to face him in single combat. The one he wants is their most fearsome fighter, Achilles, but he’s sulking in his tent. The Greek commander Ulysses offers up the “blockish” Ajax hoping it will inspire Achilles to action. It doesn’t. Once again the Greeks offer to abandon the siege if Helen is returned but, though a Trojan prophetess predicts disaster for Troy if the offer is refused, the Trojan leaders decide to continue the fight. In Act III, Pandarus is successful in returning Cressida to Troy, where Troilus and Cressida vow love to one another. Their union is only temporary, as Cressida’s father, who has “incurred a traitor’s name,” seeks to make amends by offering his daughter to the Greeks in exchange for a Trojan leader held captive. In Act IV, they consent so Cressida returns to the Greek side once more. Only this time she falls for one of their commanders, Diomedes, despite her vows of fidelity to Troilus. Hector and Ajax meet in battle in single combat, but after a few blows they stop on account of kinship. In Act V, Ulysses allows Troilus inside the Greek camp so he may see Cressida again. Once there, he sees how faithless Cressida has been, having taken up with Diomedes. The next day in battle, Troilus and Diomedes fight one another but without serious injury to either. At the same time, Hector slays Achilles’ intimate friend Patroclus. Achilles is enraged, but fearful of facing Hector alone. He orders his minions to surround the disarmed Hector and slaughter him. Achilles then takes full credit by instructing them to spread the word that he alone faced Hector and killed him in combat. What a guy. Seeing their best fighter has been slain, the Trojans retire from the field as the play ends. And that, Shakespeare seems to be suggesting, is how heroic legends like Achilles are born.Which brings us back to the play’s introduction by Jonathan Crewe, where he writes: “We tend to think of the 20th century as a time of unprecedented historical disillusionment. Repeated, searing experience of military catastrophe, genocide, political corruption, abusive sexual and racial politics, and collapsing ideals have resulted in forms of disbelief that have often been regarded as belonging peculiarly to the 20th century. Yet Shakespeare’s play demystified the Trojan War with a critical energy that the 20th century barely equaled.” Is it any wonder then that “Troilus and Cressida” while neglected for nearly 300 years has in recent times come into its own? Written in 1603, it seems William Shakespeare’s “Troilus and Cressida” is as relevant as today’s headlines.

This is not what i expected! There is absolutely nothing helpful for Troilus and Cressida. It was interesting to read about Silas Marner and Treasure Island but I wanted help with the Shakespeare play I am reading with a group.The Folger edition is much better.
