I am very interested in studying Law. I even want to enter a law school. But I can’t, since I am fulltime teaching math and already got my PhD. So I decided to study by myself. I found this book from the book list for law students at UCLA School of Law. I like this book very much. This book is about criminal law and its processes as the title indicated and more importantly, it has many cases and materials. Thus, this book has the fundamental legal knowledge.I heard some student said that studying law is boring. But I feel this book is not boring at all, it is fascinating. It not only has the knowledge law students need to learn but also has interesting lead to guide students to learn.This book has ten chapters. Chapter 1 is Institutions and Processes. Chapter 2 is The Justification and Punishment. Chapter 3 is Defining Criminal Conduct –The Elements of Just Punishment. Chapter 4 is Rape. Chapter 5 is Homicide. Chapter 6 is The Significance of Resulting Harm. Chapter 7 is Group Criminality. Chapter 8 is Exculpation. Chapter 9 is Theft Offenses. Chapter 10 is Discretion.
This edition is one of my least favorites because it just didn't cover enough subject areas. It could have been a few hundred pages longer to include other crimes instead of shorter and limited to only a few crimes and cases.
...now in book format. This one has EVERYTHING: murder, robberies, conspiracy, entrapment, old-timey English courts with judges in wigs, sea captains, nautical murder, russian roulette, forbidden love, vigilantism, drugs, drug busts, and, best of all, the Model Penal Code.
This is the books law students carry everyday. They pour over this. Many go back to it after they've passed their bar. I got it just to educate myself on the laws and processes of our litigious nation. It's complicated but its also structured to keep your interest. A GREAT READ!

I bought this only because I needed it for a class. It's comprehensive and informative, but don't buy it at regular price.
