About the Author
Michael A. Aquino was the only member of the original Church of Satan to attain the Second Level of the Fourth Degree (Magister Templi IV°-II’) prior to the Church’s 1975 termination. He was a member of its governing Council of Nine and its Order of the Trapezoid 1970-75. He served as Editor of the Church’s Cloven Hoof_ newsletter 1971-75. In secular life he is a Lt. Colonel, Psychological Operations, U.S. Army (Ret.). He is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University; Defense Intelligence College, Defense Intelligence Agency; Foreign Service Institute, Department of State; U.S. Army Special Warfare Center (Special Forces (“Green Beretâ€)/Psychological Operations/Civil Affairs/Foreign Area Officer); U.S. Army Command & General Staff College; U.S. Army Intelligence School, and U.S. Army Space Institute. Decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 awards), Special Forces Tab, Parachutist Badge, USAF Space & Missile Badge, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Psychological Warfare Medal (First Class), & Air Service Medal (Honor Grade). Academic credentials include the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara; and the M.P.A. in Public Administration from George Washington University. He has taught as Adjunct Professor of Political Science, Golden Gate University. The dogmatic LaVeyan Satanists are out in force! Just ignore them, they may as well be apologetic Christian fundamentalists.At first I was unimpressed with TSB50. I was bothered by the use of the title, the mostly repeated information from Dr. Aquino's other books, etc. But after thinking on the subject I have changed my view.TSB50 is the complete magnum opus of Dr. Aquino, his Great Work. It is his most important religious works, ideas, arguments, anecdotes, etc. It fully explains his world view without having to grab ToS, CoS, MindWar/Star/Find Far, etc and compile the info. And as always, it is the same level of genius one has come to expect. I honestly almost wish I'd waited for TSB50 instead of reading his non-fiction as it came outAs for the title, I have no problem anymore. LaVey's TSB, as inspiring as it's been, was 1/2 plagerism and 1/2 random articles compiled simply to produce a book. It hasn't been adjusted or update, remaining a book of an organizations beginning, but not accounting for discoveries since then. Further, it is a work supported by LaVey's family, which matters far more here than what the CoS thinks about it. There's something beautiful about Dr. Aquino's great work returning to his Satanic Roots, and it's inspired the Satanist in me once more. Besides, as Aquino provides from LaVey himself in a recognition letter, who better to update and rebirth Satanism than his Right Hand Man?In the end TSB50 may not he necessary if you've kept up with Aquino. All the same it is his Magnum Opus and that alone makes it worth having. It's also nice to have a Satanic Bible to put out which creates an air of respect and true wonder. But if you haven't read Aquino or about Satanism, this is a must have. Great work!
Michael Aquino has the peculiar habit of giving laurels to LaVey with one hand, and stabbing him in the back with the other. Aquino left the CoS in 1975 to start the other leading brand of Satanism, The Temple of Set. The schism was the end of the heyday of the Church of Satan. While LaVey tried to downplay the Xodus, saying he had actually engineered to clear the CoS of the deadwood, ala Pee Wee Herman's "I meant to do that", it seemed to have demoralized LaVey. From then on, CoS was just a P.O. box selling membership cards for $100 a pop. Unlike CoS...which simplified witchcraft, and even mocked many traditional occultic things... ToS was a step backwards: a literal Devil, all the magical balderdash of other occult groups like Crowley and The Golden Dawn, etc. Worst of all was its fascination with Nazism. While CoS had dabbled in it, ToS reveled in it. In fact, when you compare ToS to Cos, you get the feeling Mikey never really got what CoS was all about it...which is weird since he was there. This book is hardly a "ReVision of The Satanic Bible" What it really is, in fact, is a cut and paste job of Aquino's Crystal Tablet of Set, complete with the boring Diablicon, and his incomprehensible ideas of what Black Magic is supposed to be. Read this book if you're interested in the Temple of Set, rather than The Satanic Bible.
Kindle version is a PDF with obnoxious fonts and distorted jpeg images. Not to mention the spooky Halloween font on the cover. While I appreciate Aquino's historical information and perspective, this is a long winded and mostly useless diatribe.
This book is the functional, rational, and eloquently written final Word on the philosophical basis of Satanism as a true magico-religious system. While LaVey’s book was exciting to read when I discovered it as a 12-year-old boy in Ohio, looking for something to satisfy and confirm my frustrations and desires, this is something different entirely. This book is the Keystone in the Great Gate of Satanic Initiation. This book does not have a neatly packaged formula for being a spooky Satanist, but rather, it has the foundations of an internally consistent Satanic religion. But this book also leaves the Work up to the reader. If this resonates wih you, it is your task to internalize this material, and find your place in it.Now, the criticism that this should be called the “Setian Bible,†well, it sounds like there are some people who just can’t handle having their sacred cows goaded a little bit.
For some reason you are unable to resize the text for this book. I was literally unable to read it on my phone. I was looking forward to this book and am quite disapointed. I had to request a refund.
